About Alyson McGee
I’ve lived all over the country, in cities big and small, and can say from experience that Austin has all the advantages of a big city, but is friendly like a small town. That’s why so many people are moving here and so many stay.
After earning my Master’s degree in Construction Management at Colorado State University I went into the field of historic preservation. Over a more than 18 year career I taught university courses, helped start a historic preservation outreach and education institute at Colorado State University, worked for a multi-million dollar grant program helping hundreds of communities and property owners plan for and fund projects on historic sites, and served as the Deputy Historic Preservation Officer for the City of Austin’s Planning Department. I’ve also served on a municipal landmark commission and on the Board of Directors of historic preservation non-profit organizations. I currently serve as the President-elect for Preservation Austin, the local non-profit advocate that protect’s Austin’s unique heritage and character.
Having worked for the City of Austin’s Historic Preservation Office, I understand Austin’s central and historic neighborhoods, and how to navigate the City’s planning and permitting process. My passion for historic preservation comes from an appreciation of architecture from all eras, and a desire to support sustainable and livable neighborhoods. I understand the importance of place and look forward to helping my clients find the special place they’ll call home.
What my clients say about me:
Alyson is the best realtor I have ever worked with. She has guided me expertly through both the buying and selling of homes, always going above and beyond every step of the way. – Nathan Freeze
Alyson helped me find and purchase my first home. As a first time buyer, I had many questions and concerns and Alyson was there for me every step of the way. She’s an amazing communicator—she always made herself available to answer my many calls and emails, and she helped come up with solutions when I thought there was going to be no way forward. Not only is she amazing at her job, but she was also a pleasure to get to know as a person. She really went above and beyond to help make my first home-buying experience the best it could possibly be. – Nikki Hart
